Ruben is Debbie's supposed "boyfriend" on the reality TV show. That means his shady actions in real life could impact both his and Debbie's reputations, especially when the show's fans are involved. Debbie felt distasteful when Ruben tried to use his newfound fame to ask for donations for a cause that could have been resolved without public attention. In an Instagram comment, Debbie expressed her suspicion about Ruben's donation campaign, and she called it sketchy. She suggested that Ruben's friend could get help from Habitat for Humanity or home repair ministries. Debbie clarified that she is not involved in Ruben's actions, and whatever he is doing, he is doing alone.
During a conversation in the comments section of fellow castmate Riley Diego's Instagram post, Miss Debbie referred to her reality TV boyfriend as "Ruben the scamming Cuban.". However, she later deleted the comment after Riley asked her to do so.
