During an episode of 90 Day Fiancé season nine, Patrick Mendes revealed that he was married to another woman before Thais but his first marriage has ended in a divorce. He also said that he is an American-Brazilian weightlifter, and that he met Thais while he was visiting his Brazilian father who went to live in his home country after being separated from his mother. He was the heavyweight USA national champion in 2011 and 2012, but he was suspended by the United States Anti-Doping Agency for two years for using human growth hormone and later 8 years for using steroids.
Back when Patrick was an aspiring Olympic weight lifter living in Las Vegas, he was in the gym 24/7 and that’s where he ended up meeting his first girlfriend, which then ended up becoming his first wife. They were a great fitness couple, sharing the same life style, both athletic, eating healthy and going to the gym together. She was a weightlifter as well and he thought that they were going to have a great life together.
But, before the 2012 Olympic games, he tested positive for HGH, which is a growth hormone or somatotropin, also known as human growth hormone in its human form. It is a peptide hormone that stimulates growth, cell reproduction, and cell regeneration in humans and other animals. A couple years later, he also tested positive for dimethyl testosterone, another banned substance. And since it was his second offense, basically that ended his career and eventually his marriage, because his wife couldn't handle the shame that Patrick brought to himself and to her after loosing the respect of the weightlifting fans, community and the Olympic weightlifting committees.
Patrick's ex identity has been a mystery, even if you try to search her online you will not get a full picture showing her face. It could be because she still feel ashamed of the Olympic scandal that Patrick has put himself into and as a current weight lifting athlete herself, she wanted nothing to do with him or her past life.
The ex-wife was working for the F.B.I when she first met him back in 2013. The couple started working out together, and after dating for about two years, they tied the knot in January of 2017. Soon after, they bought their first house together in Austin in April of 2018. But due the reasons listed above, the couple slowly started drifting apart after Patrick's weightlifting career ended. And finally In January 2020, Patrick's wife filed for divorce, which was finalized in December 2020.
Patrick still has some trauma from his first marriage, but now he's ready to move on with his life and with his Brazilian love Thaís. A trusted source has revealed that the couple got married and started their new life together in his new home in Dallas. Also a fan has seen the couple in New York during the filming of the tell all and was surprised to see that Thais was around 3 months pregnant. The couple still has a lot to work on, and Thais will have to learn how to speak English so she can communicate better with her in laws.
